Taught by Nate Neumann, CPA7+ years working specifically with churches
  • A dozen-plus churches
  • Hundreds of monthly closes
  • Dozens of audits

Maybe this sounds familiar.

You said yes to helping with your church's money.

Then someone handed you a QuickBooks file you didn't set up.

The finance committee wants reports, and you're not sure what they should show.

A family gives money for missions, and you wonder where it goes in the books.

You search online and find advice written for small businesses.

So month-end feels like guessing. And audit season feels like a test you didn't study for.

Cartoon of a man at a laptop scratching his head, with a question mark above him.

It's not your fault.

Most church bookkeepers get the job before they get any training. And church books have their own rules: funds, restricted gifts, and reports for a board. A regular bookkeeping class skips all of that.

Here's the good news. Church books aren't complicated once you see how the pieces fit. Your accounts tell you what happened. Your funds tell you why.

From guessing to a system you can follow

Most of the stress goes away once you have a routine you can follow every month, and you know why each step matters.

Your books now

  • Sticky notes on the monitor
  • A shoebox of receipts
  • A spreadsheet nobody else can follow
  • Restricted money mixed in with the general fund
  • Dreading the next board meeting

Your books with CBA

Monthly closeOn track
  • A monthly close you can follow, step by step
  • Every fund tracked, so you know what's spendable
  • Reports your board understands
  • Files ready when the auditor asks
  • People to ask when something looks off

Here's how CBA works

Watch a short lesson. Practice it. Check yourself. Then use it in your own books.

01 Lessons

Plain-English lessons, built for church books

  • Fund accounting, restricted and designated gifts, month-end close, and reading your reports
  • Short videos you can finish on a lunch break, plus printable lesson guides
  • Practical concepts that work in any bookkeeping system. QuickBooks questions? Ask in the community anytime.

New lessons are added regularly, so there's always a next step.

02 Practice Lab

Practice real church entries before you touch your real books

Most training stops at the video. This is where you actually practice.

  • Make the journal entry. The checker tells you what's right and why.
  • Journal entries for each lesson, plus full simulations: bank reconciliation, prepaid expenses, deferred revenue, depreciation, A/R aging, and restricted funds
  • It all happens in a fictional church's books, so mistakes are safe

You get your practice in here, so your real close feels familiar.

Know you've got it before you move on

  • A knowledge check for each course
  • 119 questions across the first three courses
  • Questions built on real church situations, like a gift for youth camp or money set aside by the board

No more wondering if it stuck.

04 Templates and guides

Take what you learn and use it the same day

  • Ready-to-use templates, each with step-by-step instructions
  • Printable lesson guides to keep by your desk
  • Made for the way churches actually keep books: funds, restricted gifts, and board reports

Learn it in the lesson. Use it at your next close.

The people are the best part

The CBA community is where you can ask questions, share wins, and get help from Nate and other church bookkeepers.

Ask a question and get a real answer from someone doing the same job. Share something you figured out, and it saves the next person a headache. It's built for treasurers, church admins, volunteers, and finance pros to learn from each other.

It's give-and-take, not just take. The more you give, the more you get.

Our first community rule: Love God, love others. Be kind and patient. Everyone here started somewhere.

When paid membership opens, the community is part of the membership.

Questions people ask

Do I need an accounting background?

No. Foundations starts from zero and explains everything in plain English. Start with Lesson 1. It takes about 7 minutes.

I'm a volunteer. Is this for me?

Yes. CBA is made for volunteers, church admins, treasurers, and finance staff. You don't need a finance job to belong here.

What software do you use?

We teach the ideas behind church bookkeeping in a practical way, so they work in any bookkeeping system. We're not tied to QuickBooks Online. If you use QuickBooks and have a QuickBooks question, just ask in the community.

Can my church pay for it?

Often, yes. And right now there's nothing to pay: everything is free during the founding beta, so you have time to ask. Many churches treat a membership like this as staff training. The annual plan works well with church budgets: one payment, once a year.

Is this tax or legal advice?

No. CBA is education only. For decisions specific to your church, check with your church's CPA or attorney.

Is it really free?Is there a free plan?

Yes, during the founding beta. Everyone who joins gets full access: the community, Foundations, every Masterclass course, the Practice Lab, and all the templates and guides. No card needed. When paid membership opens, there won't be a free plan, and you'll hear about it by email well before anything changes.

No. CBA is a paid membership. You can try two practice problems from the Practice Lab right on this page, and Nate shares free videos on YouTube.

What happens when the beta ends? What is the founding rate?

Can I ask about my own church's books?

Yes. That's what the community is for. Just keep donor names, giving amounts, salaries, and account numbers out of your posts and screenshots.

A note from Nate

Hi, I'm Nate.

I'm a CPA with a master's in accounting. For the past seven years, I've worked with Bright & Associates, where I serve churches every day. That's a dozen-plus churches, hundreds of monthly closes, and dozens of audits.

A lot of church bookkeepers get handed the job with no training. A QuickBooks file someone else set up. A finance committee waiting on reports. They care about doing it right. They just never got the manual.

That's why I built Church Bookkeeper Academy. It's the training I wish every church bookkeeper had on day one.

You don't have to become an accountant. You need to know what your books are telling you, and what to do next. That's what we work on here, one short lesson at a time.

And you won't be doing it alone. The best part of CBA is the people in it. Right now, everyone who joins gets the community too.Every member gets the community too. Ask your questions. Share what you learn. We all get better together.

Start with Foundations. Lesson 1 takes about 7 minutes.
